This “Week” in Science

Two days. That is all the time we will have for science class this “week!” While I know that news is devastating to my students, we will continue to make the best of it!

Look to have some topical discussions on what will be our final areas of content for this school year! Hopefully the weather will be a little bit nicer for Field Day next week.

Enjoy your nice, looong weekend!

New Content, New York

Exciting times this week! We are starting new material in 7th Grade (plants) and 6th Grade will be exploring more about the Nervous System. 5th Grade will be having a test this Wednesday on the Respiratory & Excretory Systems.

And if that was not enough, 8th Grade will be taking their class trip to New York! We wish them a safe and exciting trip!

And let’s go Flyers!

Moving on to May

Do you believe that it is May already? Truth be told, we are nearing the end of the year! It will soon be time to begin preparing for our year end finals.

This week, Grades 5 and 7 will be taking tests (Friday for 5th, Thursday for 7th – check the class pages for details). 6th Grade will be putting a few final touches on their work with Cell Division, and 8th Grade will be starting new content in the field of Meteorology.

In other news, the Flyers have won the first game of their best-of-seven series against New Jersey! Let’s go Flyers!

Exceptional Exposition

The Science Expo was wonderful! Everyone who participated did a great job, and I am glad everyone managed to turn in a project despite all the delays and rescheduling. I got a good feel for how things ran, and I know we will be able to build upon this experience for next year! A special thanks to Mrs. McMonagle and Mrs. Boyle for running the show and making the room look so fantastic!

This week there will be a pair of Tests for 6th grade (Cell Division) and 8th grade (Stars and Comets, etc.), so check the class pages for information! You will all be deeply saddened to hear that I will be absent this Friday, April 27th to attend my brother Matt’s graduation. Matt is graduating from the University of Pittsburgh in emergency medicine, and we are very proud and excited! Please be on your best behavior for my substitute on Friday.

Also, the Flyers have advanced to the second round of the playoffs after besting our cross-state rivals the Penguins. Let’s go Flyers!

Expo Upon Us!

Yes, it is true – the 2012 Science Expo is this Friday! Experiments need to be in the buildingĀ  by Thursday so they can be set up bright and early Friday morning. Drop off times are Tuesday and Wednesday night between 7-8PM. Alternatively, you can bring your project in to school and leave it with Mr. Antonello in the science room!

There will be no science homework this week so that you can dedicate your time to the project. Take advantage of it! Remember that this is a grade for class, so do your best. All the information is posted on the Expo page above.

Go Flyers!

Easter has Ended

Welcome back! Hopefully everyone enjoyed their break as much as I did. It was a fun and relaxing few days, but there is much to look forward to.

This week we will be getting back into the swing of things. 5th grade will be working on their Electricity usage maps; 6th will be having a TEST on Cells at the end of the week; 7th will be finishing their studies on human biology; and 8th will continue reviewing stars.

Do not forget to keep working on your Science Fair projects!! The expo is next week (4/20)! Also, the NHL Playoffs begin tomorrow! Let’s go Flyers!
